Ye Shakespeare,
Victoria Street, Bristol

Ye Shakespeare in Victoria Street is one of Bristol's oldest pubs, and one of the few that survived bombardment during the second World War. A truly beautiful pub which was in desperate need of a new sign.

Given a slightly freer hand than usual thanks to the landlord, John, I decided to use the only known portrait of Shakespeare, the 'Chandos Portrait', as a loose reference point, and then set about 'sexing up' my portrait of the Bard.
